Sometime around April, the ABS light and brake light have been beeping and flashing at me in my Passat. I checked the forums and gathered it was a typical ABS module failure. Since it was considerate enough to wait until after winter, I wasn’t in a huge rush to replace it both due to less need and having the M3 to drive during the nice weather.

My options were buy a new one for around $600, find a replacement in a junkyard, or have mine repaired. Figuring it’d take a lot of effort to call around to junkyards with no guarantee that the parts will last, I decided to go for the repair. It turns out there’s a wire that breaks in modules frequently and most of the time the failure can be traced to it.

From a few testimonials on PassatWorld, I decided on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It was $110 for the repair and return shipping plus the cost to ship it to them in Kansas. I sent it out last Monday and they had it repaired and returned to me by Saturday. I was amazed with how quickly they had it back to me and was pleasantly surprised to have all of my repairs wrapped up on Saturday. I haven’t tried getting the ABS to activate yet, but there are no errors anymore so it looks like it was a success.

I also replaced the coolant flange, downpipe, and motor mounts, so the Passat is in the best shape it’s been in quite some time.

They’re great, we send them customer units. We could do it ourselves, but it’s cheaper to have them do it, even with shipping.
